Virtual Exhibit: Barbara D’Antonio
December 21, 2020 - February 28, 2021
In normal times, the Library would be home to art shows and exhibits on an ongoing basis for patrons and members of the public to enjoy. We’re not currently open to the public, but artist Barbara D’Antonio has shared some of her work with York Public Library for a virtual exhibit that you can enjoy from anywhere. When the Library can safely reopen, you can enjoy these pieces in person, but for now, enjoy the colorful and unique work of Barbara D’Antonio in our online art show.
Artist Statement My paintings are influenced by the Post Impressionists’ works in The Barnes Foundation, specifically, Bonnard and Matisse. I’m inspired by the artists that have come before me. My eyes look at the world around me, but what I see has been filtered by the artists of the past. What is actually there? I don’t know, but the work that emerges includes a little bit of reimagined memory, and a whole lot of art history. My works are in private collections in the United States as well as in Crete, Greece and Spinetoli, Italy where I lived and worked in the summers between 1985 through 2014. I consider myself a modern figurative artist.
