Coronavirus can’t keep us down! All of us at York Public Library are excited to announce that we will offer our annual Summer Challenge program. This year we are testing out a new (to us) online program called Beanstack. Participants of all ages will be able to track their reading, complete fun activities, and earn raffle tickets for chances to win real prizes!
What is Beanstack?
Beanstack has successfully been used by schools and libraries around the world for years. We gave their program a test drive, and we like the fact that tracking your program progress is both easy and fun.
Does it cost anything to participate?
It’s free! Thanks to the Maine State Library and a grant they received from the Institute of Museum and Library Services for COVID purposes, we’ll be able to use this online program for the next three years for a range of programs and reading challenges. This year’s Summer Challenge program is also generously sponsored by the York Rotary Club. From literacy and peace, to clean water and health, Rotary is always working to better our world. Anyone who would like to participate in the York Public Library Summer Challenge may set up a free Beanstack account. Library cards are not required to register.
How do participants create their free account?
Pre-registration for the York Public Library Summer Challenge starts on June 8, 2020. Just create a free Beanstack account by visiting our website at www.york.lib.me.us or through the Beanstack mobile app. Even though our building is closed, library staff is here and ready to help you. Give us a call at 207-363-2818 if you need help with this new program, and we will walk you through it.
Will there be prizes this year?
What if people don’t have access to a computer?
Beanstack offers a free mobile app for smartphone users, and the library has also put together an offline paper version of our Summer Challenge. If you need a paper version, just give us a call at 363-2818.
What is the Summer Challenge theme for 2020?
The theme for 2020 is “Dig Deeper! Read, Investigate & Discover.” We have developed exciting activities to encourage you to dig a little deeper and explore the world without having to leave your safe space.
When does the York Public Library Summer Challenge start this year?
Participants may create their free accounts now. The library Summer Challenge runs from June 22 to Aug. 22 this year. Stay safe, explore, and happy reading!
