Challenge: Accepted!

York Public Library challenges YOU to read!  The Library hosts several reading challenges throughout the year.  Some are year-round or ongoing, others have an assigned start and end date. The digital homebase for all of our reading challenges is a program called Beanstack, a web-based tool where you can log your reading, write book reviews, complete other challenges and earn virtual badges. You can even download the Beanstack app right to your smartphone or tablet for easy tracking on the go – like a “fitbit” for reading!

Beanstack is used by over 1,000 public libraries and school districts across the country. Readers of all ages can register in seconds as individuals, a family, or classroom. Some challenges, like our annual Summer Reading Challenge, come with chance to enter raffles and win seriously cool prizes (like a $200 shopping spree to York businesses, for example).  But in all challenges, you can earn badges, log your reading, and push yourself to read more – and that is a reward in itself!

Get started by clicking the “create account” button above, or login to your Beanstack dashboard. Questions about Beanstack or our reading challenges? Call (207) 363-2818 to speak with a YPL librarian.

Beanstack FAQs

What is Beanstack?

Beanstack is an easy-to-use online platform where you can track your reading and activities. Download the Beanstack Tracker app—available for iOS and Android—to your mobile device for convenient registration and logging.

Beanstack features include:

  • Barcode scanner: Scan barcodes to quickly add titles to your log.
  • Reading session timer: Record reading sessions to keep track of what you’re reading.
  • Reading stats: View totals and averages of your time spent reading and titles read.
  • Family accounts: Manage each member of your family’s reading log and view their stats.

How do I earn virtual badges and prizes?

Rewards vary from challenge to challenge. Check the challenge details on the challenge’s Beanstack landing page to learn more about the virtual badges and prizes (if available) for each challenge. Please note that real prizes must be picked up at the library. Due to the nature of our programs we will not ship prizes.

How do I use Beanstack on my device?

Read the Getting Started with Beanstack brochure, or watch this brief video if you are using the Beanstack App on your phone or tablet. Still need help? Ask a librarian and call 207-363-2818

Does it cost anything to particpate?
