Looking for something to break up those winter doldrums? Try “Mini-Golf at the Library” on February 2-3

York Public Library will transform its building into an 18-hole miniature golf course in its upcoming “Mini-Golf at the Library” with events for all ages on February 2–3.

The Library is working with New England based Library Mini-Golf, LLC, to set up a one-of-a-kind mini-golf course covering both levels of the building, with one hole even spanning a set of stairs.

“For a while now, we at the Library have wanted to do something fun, something community focused, and something that we’ve never tried before,” said Sophie Smith, Assistant Director of the Library. “That something is turning York Public Library into an indoor mini-golf course for two days!”

Community groups and organizations will help to provide imaginative obstacles for many of the holes, while others created by Library staff and volunteers will have a literary twist. Business sponsors at our Fairway level will also have their own custom hole, in appreciation for their generous support.

Friday evening offers ticketed events for adults, and on Saturday the course will be open to all ages, free of charge.

The winning team of the Library’s Mini-Golf Tournament on February 2 will have their names inscribed on the Golf Trophy pictured at top right – resurrected from two decades ago when actual Golf Tournaments were held in support of the Library.

Taking place on Friday evening February 2, “Clubhouse Night” features a Tournament at 6PM — ideal for those who like a little friendly competition — followed by an “Open Play” period at 7:30PM for those seeking a more leisurely-paced game. The 19th Hole, downstairs in the Community Room, will offer catered fare from Sundrop Café, beer, wine, and a nonalcoholic signature cocktail.

Tickets are $50 per person ($75 at the door) and two drink tickets are included. Registration is offered for teams of four, or you may register as a trio, a pair, or individually, and the Library will create groups. Doors open for both “Clubhouse Night” events at 5:30PM. Proceeds from the event support the York Public Library Association.

Saturday is “National Take Your Child to the Library Day,” a day for exploring all that your library offers… and, on February 3, that includes mini-golf! The course opens up at 10AM for Free Family Fun Day, open to all ages, free of charge (sign-up recommended), with designated Sensory-Friendly time from 2-4PM (sign-up required).

“February can be a long, cold month in Maine,” continued Smith. “We hope this offers a unique, one-of-a-kind experience for our community to have fun and show support for YPL at the same time. And how many times have you played mini-golf in a library?”
