North by Daniel Mason
WOW. Just…WOW. The premise is unique and unusual one: it’s a novel about a little cabin in the vast woods of western MA and the people who come to live there through the centuries. From the inside flap: “…North Woods shows the myriad, magical ways in which we’re connected to our environment, to history, and to one another. It is not just an unforgettable novel about secrets and destinies but a way of looking at the world that asks the timeless question: How do we live on, even after we’re gone?” The novel was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize last year and I’ve been meaning to read it. So thought-provoking. At times funny. Other times mystical. LOVED IT. Get thee to the library if you missed this one!

Heartwood by Amity Gaige
I could not put this book down!!!! In the heart of the woods on the Appalachian Trail in Maine, a woman has gone missing. Maine Game Wardens and their massive search and rescue party are on a race against time and the elements to find AT hiker Valerie Gillis.
The story is told through Game Warden Beverly, Valerie’s journal writing from the trail, and a 76 year old “armchair detective” in Connecticut. Must read.
