Amanda:
Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey
I read this book while I was participating in a six week National Outdoor Leadership School program in the Sonoran Desert in the southwest in 1996. His writing is poetic, accurate and inspiring!
This book is a classic work of nature writing and environmental philosophy. It’s a series of vivid, reflective essays drawn from Abbey’s experiences as a park ranger in Arches National Monument in Utah. Blending lyrical descriptions of the desert landscape with sharp critiques of industrial tourism and environmental destruction, Abbey celebrates the beauty, solitude, and harshness of the American Southwest while urging readers to protect wild places from human exploitation.

Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate

I See You’ve Called in Dead by John Kenney
I recently stumbled upon this one by pure chance. The basic premise- a middle aged failed obituary writer learns to live.

Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune
This is my favorite of the TJ Klune books so far. I wish I could read it without knowing how it develops all over again
