Barb:
Stuntboy by Jason Reynolds
Favorite author and smattered with cool illustrations by Raul the Third. Wimpy Kid fans will like this one. About a sweet, anxious kid trying to be a superhero to protect people from pain.
Isabelle:
Eerie Tales from the School of Screams by Annable Graham
“Eerie Tales from the School of Screams” is the newest creation of Graham Annable, one of my all-time favorite artists. What starts out as a storytelling activity in a classroom becomes something much more…strange. Each chapter is a new story by a different student, and they run the gamut from super spooky science fiction to somehow heartwarming zombie horror. There’s something for everyone – especially the teacher, whose very interesting face graces the cover of this graphic novel.
Michele:
Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
An adaptation of Homer’s Iliad told from the perspective of Patroclus. Beautifully written love story.
Kelly:
Kenzi Kickstarts a Team by Kit Rosewater
Kenzie Kickstarts a Team is the first in a middle grade series about roller derby and friendship. The roller derby parts of the story are fun, but what really shines is the dynamic between the kids as they try to figure out a changing friend group.
Emily:
Lore Olympus by Emily Smythe
The Lore Olympus graphic novel series is an excellent series, with beautiful artwork! Plus it’s fun for the grown up Percy Jackson kids!
